Detailed Itinerary: 8 Days Gorillas Trekking and Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport

Entebbe UWEC Zoo

Upon arrival and clearing with the immigration office, you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred to your hotel/ Guesthouse in Entebbe for your first night during the start of your Uganda Gorilla Safari.

Main Destination: Entebbe

Day 2: Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Domestic Flight Ebb-Kihihi/ Kisoro)

Buhoma Community Haven Lodge

After an early breakfast, you will transfer back to Entebbe International airport for your scheduled flight to Kihihi/Kisoro Airstrip near the Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Parks. With just over an hour to admire the aerial view, you will then be driven to your lodge through local villages and mountain roads – a scenic route for sure. Bwindi forest is home to over 100 mammals, 300 bird species and 160 different tree species, Up to 200 different species of butterfly can also be found here.

Upon arrival, you will be picked by your safari guide and transferred to the lodge for lodge optional activities such as Batwa cultural experience, Ride for a woman Project, community walks among others. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Alternatively, clients can decide to use the road option and drive from Entebbe to Bwindi National Park. However, this is a full day-long drive and it takes more than 9 hours though it’s also fascinating driving in the countryside with a lot to see.

Day 3: Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Today, you will do the first of two potential hikes through the forest, looking for your first sighting of a wild mountain gorillas. Often just meters away from the great apes, your chance to see a family group of the rare mountain gorillas will put you in a small minority of people. This is a full day activity though some treks have known to be short about two or three hours depending on where the gorillas slept and previously sighted though others have taken full day so we always dedicate the full to gorilla tracking. We recommend our clients to carry enough water, packed lunch and rain gear before embarking on the trek. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Second Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (optional)

Uganda Gorillas

After an early breakfast, you’ll set out to spend a second day in the company of the primates. No two visits are ever the same, the more time you spend with them, the more you will see and appreciate these gentle giants.

Optional, you can enjoy other activities in the area, including forest walks, visit a local school or orphanage or Batwa pygmy village, and curios shopping.

Take a walk with your experienced guide and enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest. Bird watching is outstanding and you could even glimpse some of the many monkey species living in the forest canopy.

The community walk takes 3 to 4 hours, visit the homes and buildings of the villages and watch banana brewing demonstrations, you may even meet traditional medicine healers.

Visit the Batwa known as a pygmy village which is a half-day activity allowing you to experience their living arrangements, day to day life, and even a forest hunt.

Day 5: Transfer from Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park


Depart from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in the morning and proceed to Ishasha sector in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will enjoy your first African safari offering a chance of sighting buffalos, elephants and if lucky see the famous tree-climbing lions that are found in this area.

Along the way, you will visit the local communities to learn about the crops and curios produced in the local area. This is an extremely interesting cultural experience that will enhance your knowledge of the people in the area.

Day 6: Ishasha Sector to North of Queen Elizabeth National Park

You’ll spend the day in the Ishasha sector of the National Park, viewing the game and watching the local wildlife go about daily life without having to worry about meeting a schedule. The park’s most famous region is the Ishasha sector, which hosts an impressive array of wildlife including tree-climbing lions which are found in the low-lying branches of the native fig trees.

Day 7: Mweya/ Kasenyi Northern Sector in Queen Elizabeth National Park

The Mweya sector of the park is your base for the day, Mweya offers excellent game watching in a diverse landscape. Cruise along the Kasinga Channel and get up-close and personal with the water-based animals and view the fishing villages along the banks of the Mweya Peninsula.

The Kazinga Channel is home to herds of elephant, buffalo, and antelope, and the shores are home to a variety of birds including migratory species. Pods of hippo and large crocodiles rest in the water and give you a chance to enjoy a different scene for game viewing.

Day 8: Transfer Back to Ebb—Departure

After an early breakfast, we embark on a journey back to Entebbe for your evening flight. We drive through the Maramagambo forest and proceed with Mbarara with lunch en route with other interesting stops including the equator of Uganda for a short photographic moment. Thereafter we drive directly to the airport or the lodge in case you have precooked a day room use at the lodge. (Please note that is a long drive for more 7 hours)

However, there are daily scheduled domestic flights from Kasese and Mweya airstrip to Entebbe. There is an option of flying to Entebbe International Airport which takes about one hour and forty-five minutes.
